From Small Acting Gigs to the Face of Growing Brands: The 35-Year Performer Who Rebuilt His Career on Camera — One Review at a Time

When Rick filmed his first Fiverr order from his home in Spain, the job paid ten dollars. It was a long way from where he’d started — 35 years earlier, taking small acting gigs wherever they came, in a career where the next role was never guaranteed. Today, he is one of the platform’s most-reviewed spokesperson sellers, with nearly 900 reviews and a rating that has never dropped below five stars, and he says the business built on top of that profile now generates $45,000 a month.

His path there wasn’t the usual freelancer story. Rick spent over three decades as a professional actor in film and television before bringing that experience to a market that barely existed ten years ago: user-generated content — the deliberately unpolished, straight-to-camera ad style that now dominates TikTok, Instagram, and Meta advertising.

“Brands figured out that audiences trust a person more than a production,” he says. “I’d spent my whole career learning how to be believable on camera. It turned out that was exactly the skill the ad market wanted.”

The early days were volume work: ten- and twenty-dollar gigs, fast turnarounds, order after order, often filmed late at night. What changed the business, he says, was treating a marketplace profile like a brand of its own — relentless delivery, one-hour response times, and a review record that compounded with every order. His gigs today hold a perfect 5.0 across nearly 900 reviews, with 879 of them five stars and not a single one- or two-star rating among them.

“Every review is an asset,” he says. “One order is twenty dollars. Nine hundred five-star reviews is a business.”

That compounding is visible in where the work now comes from. What began as one-off product reviews has grown beyond the platform entirely: Rick says he now works directly with established companies on growth campaigns — recurring creative work where he functions less like a gig seller and more like an outsourced face of the brand, delivering full batches of ad creative that companies test, scale, and bring him back to refresh. The marketplace that made his name, he says, has become the top of his funnel rather than the whole business.

The shift mirrors a larger one in advertising. As paid-media costs climb, brands are spending less on studio production and more on credible faces delivering simple messages — and performers with real training are discovering the demand has moved to meet them. “There are actors with decades of experience competing for roles that pay less than a day of this work,” he says. “The demand moved. I just moved with it.”

Asked what he’d tell freelancers starting from the same ten-dollar rung, his answer is less about tactics than positioning. “Decide what you’re the professional at, charge like it’s a profession, and protect your reviews like they’re your pension,” he says. “Everything else follows.”

Thirty-five years after those first small acting gigs, the auditions have reversed. “Back then I was auditioning for anything that paid,” he says. “Now brands audition for me.”
